2017 Fitness Thread
These used to be huge on here with Alex the Iron and Buster amongst others offering advice.

So anyone trying a new regime this year?

As said on the dry January thread. Giving up the booze for atleast a month. Found a copy of that Insanity that I have started just to get me back into things but will slowly switch to crossfit and swimming with some running chucked in. Would love to do the marathon in 2018 for a charity but don't think my knees would hold up! Although got plenty of time to train!

So are the fitness gurus still around? (haven't seen them).

Any fatties trying to be skinnies in 2017?

NS/gank/Vexed - chuck in your witty crazy posts please.

Not looking at losing any weight, just drink less, get back in the gym and get back to a bit of sparing!

One opened near me at a local rugby club. I know a few people who go and have been up there to take a look. The only thing that worries me is form goes out the window.

crossfit can give amazing results but fuck me it is hard work.
proper crossfit gyms have a 'cult' feel about them - the original one (salt lake city?) sounds awesome.

I'm in... been back in the gym last 4 weeks. Nothing heavy yet, some cardio and lighter weights. Dropped 2 and a bit kgs before Christmas but Christmas/New Year and a calf strain (running works wonders for me when I can),
Slowed that... still, it's a start.
Good luck everyone else who maked a commitment...

goose - yeah that's why I want to get a base fitness first. Also heard about the cult thing and the Paleo (sp) diet! Something I could maybe buy into!

Nice one nich! Welcome aboard. What you trying to do, lose weight? Build for a race?

A girl I used to do kickboxing with does cross fit next door to our boxing gym. I've had a look in, its not for me that sort of thing, I find lifting boring. But certainly gets you in good shape that's for sure.

I lost three stone last year through running and myfitnesspal so my fitness plan is to hopefully not balloon back up again.

Re: 2017 Fitness Thread
Crossfit is unbelievably expensive for what it is. Not knocking it (I'm in NO position to, and it definitely works), but other "functional training" type gyms offer exactly the same sort of thing for about half the price.

Re: 2017 Fitness Thread
Nich, if you have a calf strain it is well worth paying 30 or 40 quid for a sports massage has really helped me. I have tweaked my left calf twice in the last year running for some reason. I think it was due to early morning and not warming up properly. Did a 40 minute run this morning. Intend to do that 3x a week and mix it up with some lifting of weights and sit ups. Main thing for me is giving up booze during the week as the Leabn in 15 guy is right it seems to slow fat burning and just puts on weight.

Re: 2017 Fitness Thread
If you wanna do Insanity I'd bet a tenner there's something identical happening every night in the studio in your local leisure centre type gym, and filled with single mums as a bonus

Re: 2017 Fitness Thread
Park runs are also good to get a quick 5k under your belt as you tend to go quicker than if you . I usually go round in about 23 mins something. Would like to get down to about 21 mins.

Re: 2017 Fitness Thread
MIM it wasn't something in particular I wanted to do but have seen it works and there was one laying around the house I bought ages ago and never used. Thought I had no excuse really. Would rather do crossfit but think I might embarrass myself to start with!
